I was at Rod Stewart’s concert last night here in Johannesburg and…well… he’s still got it!
It was a FABULOUS concert – I swear he did ALL my favourites and it was SOOO great to sing along with an audience full of fans and not feel like you’re weird, you know?
Surprisingly (and I say so because usually things are a mess at gatherings of this magnitude) it was really well organised, everyone was orderly and we were able to get in and out of the venue with a minimum of fuss.
I was very impressed with him - his energy is unbelievable - and he really allows each of the band members and backup singers to shine. Of course, today Dion and I are still singing all the songs and reliving the experience :)
His 21-year-old daughter, Ruby, also sang a song. Wow - she's good - a real chip off the old block and his son (looked to me to be around 4 years old) came on to "introduce" his sister with a bit of coaching from his dad. He's such a proud father - it's gorgeous to see. Or am I just soppy?
I also (literally) ran into an old friend who I haven’t seen for about 3 – 4 years.

Driving on the highway to the concert
The one pic we took before the show started
Anyway, that's another item to cross off my life list! Now I still need to see Elton John and Billy Joel in concert.
Who do you want to see in concert?

Hi Marcia, I can't name who'd I'd like to see in concert because there are too many. We baby-boomers are all aging together and still hanging onto to favs from our youth. I sometimes imagine us wheeling our chairs onto the Nursing Home bus to drive us to a concert and we will all be stomping our canes in time with the music and tuning in our hearing aids to sing along.lol:-)
Sounds like you had a blast! I'm so happy for you! I have always wanted to see John Denver... bummer. My mom and I got to see Garth Brooks. That was an amazing concert!

I've been lucky enough to see a number of concerts, Earth, Wind & Fire, John Denver, Kitaro, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Mathis, Josh Groban, the Carpenters to name a few.
I wish I saw Elvis. Could have, but didn't go. I would love to see Andrea Bocelli!
Oh, definitely want to see Josh Groban! I just put him on my list of concerts to see.
Anne, LOL :)
My friend said to me on Facebook that the music I like is way older than I am (I'm 34) - she's about 10 years older than I am. Hey there were people at that concert younger than me!
Lil old mom, glad you enjoyed that concert too. Is it not possible to make a plan to see John Denver in concert? Put it up somewhere and start believing!
Yvonne, lucky you. I've been to a couple but I usually can't be bothered because of the horrible traffic, etc. This time, NOTHING kept me away from Rod :)
Unfortunately, John Denver passed away in a plane accident a number of years ago (can't remember how many, but do remember how shocked I was). He was a pilot and was flying solo when it happened. So sad.
A gal who works part time in our office loves "the oldies" music. Her father listens all the time and she grew up with it.
Yvonne, I had a feeling as I was typing that (I have no idea who he is) - oops!
Thanks for setting me straight :)
I've gotten a lot more soppy in my thirties!
Suzanne, I have NO DOUBT that you'll see him then. You are a gal that makes things happen!
LOL!
Soppy? As in forgetful? Don't say that! I'm in my 50s and have been getting more forgetful and not quite as organized as I used to be.
And that's why I'm here!! LOL!!!
Okay, my husband's just set me straight on John Denver (and sang some songs for me!)
I now know who he is.
Soppy as in sentimental!
"Soppy as in sentimental!"
Oh! Now I know! :>)
Elton John and Billy Joel will be in concert together. I'm not sure if you knew that when you mentioned it. My husband asked me the other day if I'd like to see this particular concert and I said yes within seconds.
I would LOVE to see Rod Stewart!
No, Kirby – I didn’t know that! In South Africa? Billy Joel was here about 18 months ago but I missed him – next time around, nothing will stand in my way.
Elton is my all time favorite! I have seen him once (before ticket prices sky-rocketed) and he was amazing.
