Declutter challenge - 25 Oct 08

Please encourage all your blog friends to join us in decluttering by using the button on your sidebar. Christmas is just around the corner and you need to start taking action so that you don't just fill up all the spaces you've already decluttered.

The Declutter Tip for the week
...

Return other people's stuff. Or better still, don't let it get into your house in the first place :)

Sometimes we get things from well-meaning friends and family that we really don't want, but because we don't want to hurt their feelings, we take the items.

Stop doing that.

Work out what to say beforehand so you're not taken unaware - "no thanks, we don't need one of those/ more glasses/ more mugs" so you're ready when it happens again, because it will :)

If you've borrowed something from a friend, return it as quickly as possible so it doesn't become your clutter.

This week, I decluttered bits and pieces around the house that were taking up space. The white thing is what goes on top of my broken kitchen scale.

Have you seen my GORGEOUS new red kitchen scale?

Some plastic containers, an old keyring and old chocolates - all out!

What did you declutter this week?

Please link to the post on your blog where you show off your pictures or talk about the declutter. Or if you don't have a blog, tell me in the comments about ANYTHING you got rid of this week.

It can be anything like physical, electronic, mental clutter or even the need to be a certain way. Like perfectionism! :)

I want you to leave a comment telling me what you're going to declutter next week, just for accountability :)

Hi. I have decluttered old photo's that are pics of scenery and things which were taken for no apparent reason. I have plenty of other good pictures to keep.
I also got rid of 2 photo frames which was not practical for me or didnt really fit into my decor.

This weekend, I plan to scan one of my old photo albums which is falling apart of some old photo's of when I was about 10 years old.... 30 years ago! Uggh
Then will be throwing out that old album that has all the photo's falling out of it anyhow.

I also love degraging and cleaning out my junk folders and keeping my operating system of my computer up to date.
I will be sending my downloaded programs I am using on my computer to a disk which I will keep with my other disks in a folder in the cupboard, altogether.
I love clearing out my emails and in box.. Always up to date there. Wish my spare room was the same, but another project to get onto soon.

Take care'
Bernie

Bernie, that’s some great decluttering of your photos and well done for keeping your computer organised.

Marcia & Tabitha - thanks, I LOVE my new kitchen scale. It was a little big but I use it daily so it makes sense to have it out.

Mental clutter. I need to do that! I didn't even get to post last week - I've been so busy at work. I didn't get much done, but I posted. You have some great tips today! Thanks.

I sooo want to tell you how much I envy your red kitchen scale and everything I decluttered, but I canNOT get past the fact that you said you had OLD chocolate! How does chocolate get old? It is to be eaten immediately. There is no WAY it could get old! Oh, I am so confused!

*grin* Anne -who is thinking chocolate sounds good for breakfast.

My decluttering goals for the following week are to post on Thursday about them, use up something from my kitchen cupboard and declutter something visible from each of the main rooms. Marcia what are you going to declutter next week?

Anne, you are HILARIOUS!

The thing is both my husband and I don't like coffee-flavoured chocolate and he received a box as a gift.

I get rid of the stuff immediately - i don't know why he hung onto it!

Shirley - thanks for holding me accountable.

Okay, I'll go through my handbags again - I'm sure there's one or two I could "release" :)

I'm in the middle of decluttering my shoes so I can only have what fits in the shoe organizer. I'm also taking the organizer apart to get rid of the pet hair from our 3 shedders - a constant problem, especially for the lower shelves.

I'm decluttering my Inbox and my Trash for 2 e-mail accounts. It's a work in progress for each time I sit down at the computer. Getting 2 of them from 5 digits to 4 digits was a real thrill. I vow to keep on top of this, as it's a pain to have so many to delete or file.

My closet! I started this week, but still have some to go. I usually purge at the change of seasons.

Thanks for stopping by to say hi!

It took me four days but I finally did it, I finally went through all of those stacks of newspapers cluttering up my kitchen table that had been sitting there for years, some dating as far back as 2003! I clipped out all the articles I'd been meaning to save so now I have one small pile of clipped articles and zero piles of musty, yellowed newspapers. Hurray for me!

Next up to declutter: the stack of 40+ magazines taken from the same table.

I also finaly threw away a broken oscillating fan that had been standing in my TV room doing nothing for a year except collecting dust and taking up space.

Great blog, btw. I have it bookmarked.
