I've been tagged to tell my quirky personal policies

Lorie tagged me for this personal quirky policies meme - I have no idea why she would think there is anything weird about me ;)

But I like being tagged (most times) so here we go:

  1. I don't go to baby showers. I used to suffer through them, hating every moment, until one day a few years ago I thought, "hang on a sec - life is too short for this". So now, I graciously decline the invite and depending how close I am to the person, will drop off a gift and visit with them separately. Oftentimes, the event organiser will invite people just to make up the numbers. Or is this just a South African thing?
  2. I have an obsession with handbags. Honestly. If I see someone with a gorgeous handbag, I have to get all the details. Some people think I'm crazy but if you're also handbag-crazy like me, you totally understand! Next time you see me hurrying towards you with a glazed look in my eyes, it's your handbag.
  3. I don't feel compelled to accept just any invite (see number 1). "No thanks, I have something else planned" is good enough. And sometimes that something else means I am vegging in front of the TV catching up on Dr Phil. Aren't boundaries wonderful?
  4. Water is my favourite beverage. I always have a bottle with me. Always. I even have water when we go out to eat but then I get fancy and I ask for lots of lemon ;)
  5. I purposely choose routes that enable me to drive freely, even if they're a bit longer because I hate being behind other cars. The twist on this is if you're driving in front of me, best you drive fast or I'll go another way so I don't have to be irritated behind you.
  6. My highest value is freedom and I base basically all my decisions on this. I'm just happier that way. I choose jobs this way, ministry work this way, everything. Trust me - I get really crabby with too many restrictions.
  7. I have to wipe down my kitchen counters with Mr Muscle before and after I cook anything. I border on obsessive with this. It's that microbiology thing!
  8. I don't like having a blogroll of favourite blogs because I don't want anyone to feel left out. I see my link on some blogs that I don't read regularly and it makes me feel bad. Me - Ms "Guilt is a Wasted Emotion". Now is this weird or is there anyone out there who understands? I actually need to get over this.
  9. I don't allow any eating in my car. I like it spotless inside (where I can control it) because the rain messes up the outside. And it's black so it looks disgusting when dirty. People often think my cars are newer than they actually are because the new car smell lasts very long. And that makes me very happy.
  10. I used to go back and read each and every blog post of any blogs I subscribed to. I used to start a Note in Outlook with the Blog name and keep updating like "Start reading May 2006" or whatever. Sadly for the sake of my sanity, I am no longer able to keep up with the madness on most of them but on photography/ creative blogs, I still do the same.

Lorie, you probably wish you hadn't asked!

I'm tagging

  1. Suzanne, the queen of quirk (you know I mean that in a good way, don't you?)
  2. Michelle (because she's so funny - I saw you're already tagged but this is just for emphasis!)
  3. Annie (because she's so sweet yet is a control freak with driving like I am)
  4. Beth (because you can't be that together all the time, now can you? :) )

Okay we need to talk about #7. I am a huge germaphobe and have to wipe my countertops down with bleach a lot. What is mr. muscle?
I sorta know what you mean about #8. I keep adding to mine because these people are regular commenters. But, I need to weed it down because I can't get through them all lately.
I'll try to get this one done tomorrow. I hope I can think of some weird things I haven't already disclosed... I'm sure I can, I'm plenty peculiar.

I especially loved #3! Boundaries are a VERY good thing, indeed. : )

And I love #1, though I very often go out of guilt. I need to stop doing that. You are right - life is way too short for that.

Thanks for the tag. I'll let you know after I get mine up - after I recuperate from our visitors for a bit. ;)

Oh, I should have mentioned that 99,9% of baby showers here happen like this: they dress the mom-to-be up like a baby and make her do stupid, embarrassing things and I can't stand it.

I enjoyed reading your list. I recently went to a baby shower. Now i have 4 kids, but I know I am not having anymore and it was kind of hard for me, especially since she is having a girl and there was so much pink. My little girl was a twin and she did not get as much pink time as I would have liked. I still had a good time, but it was hard!

Dear Marcia

Oh, I'm SO GLAD that you've also given yourself permission to say NO to the baby showers. I said no for the first time this year, and it was SO liberating! (Tertia at So Close empowered me to say no!) No more "social obligations" for me anymore, thank you very much. I'm in the "protect my heart from undue breakages" phase of infertility, thank you very much. And I'm much better for it.

About your "Mr Muscle" fandango... that's me. In the bathroom. That's right. No funny gogga's for me, thank you. I like my loo squeaky clean and shiny. With no lurking creepy crawlies. Or floaters. Or other nasties. Thanks for asking. haha!
