3 kinds of lists that work for me

There are 3 kinds of lists that I use.

Master list
This is a place for a "brain dump", a place for ideas you might want to pursue in the future or possible projects

You can work off one master list for months, like I do with business or blogging ideas.

I have a master list of things to do in the house which I've been working on since we moved in. Honestly, I think there will always be items on this list.

To-do list
This list can be monthly, weekly or daily.

The difference between this list and the master list is that this one has a time deadline to it.

I have a monthly to-do – I keep this one with broad goals like go to the gym 10 – 12 times – a weekly to-do with about 5 - 7 business tasks to get done and then my daily to-do which spreads out those 5 – 7 tasks so that I have only 1 or 2 to do daily.

I want to caution you to only put about 6 items on your daily to-do list so you don't become overwhelmed!

Checklist
This is a place with a list of items which you check/ tick off.

Examples are my shopping and travel lists.

This list is ideal for anything you need to do regularly, like a list of weekly cleaning tasks, office supplies, routine business tasks, etc.

Do you like using lists? Which ones do you use?

Marcia,

I'm a fellow listmaker and use all 3 of these types!

Thanks for commenting on the "calendars work for me!" post today!
I appreciate your post today, too... I didn't mention it because it would have sounded like overkill, but I do move things from the big "planner" to my little cheapie dollar store "daily agenda" that has time allotments on it. So, I have the monthly planner and the weekly planner in the familytime.mine calendar, then I move the daily things to the cheapie agenda so that I can see how it's going to play out time-wise. Like I said, major overkill. It overwhelms my mom and sister, but what can I say? Yes, I'm "hooked on organising!" Some of us seem to be wired that way, don't we?

Love the blog, by the way.

I think I am a type "B" personality - I like to be organized but I don't always succeed, lol.

I do keep a daily list and have gotten back to that because I really do find I get more accomplished that way.

Marcia, I'd love to see a personal example of all 3 lists if you wouldn't mind to share though! I am open to learning new things.

Yeah!!! I love lists! Thank you. I am an organization junkie with my own busines which helps me keep my car and other things clutter free. It's amazing how much I fell apart after having 3 little kids. Now I have my second wind and thank you for your shopping and travel lists!
