Quick time-saving tip in the kitchen

I was cooking some rice, not really thinking about how I do this when it dawned on me - someone might actually benefit from this tip.

So here goes - when you're measuring rice, or any ingredient really, measure it over the pot or dish so that if some of the food spills (as mostly happens, or is that just me?), you don't have to waste time cleaning up.

I try to use a plate or the pot lid instead of the pot so I don't get crazy with salt or spices. Sometimes I over-pour. Significantly.

Janelle, LOL. Well that's me - over pourer extraordinaire! Especially now that I'm pregnant and have NO spatial awareness whatsoever!

Works good if overpouring won't cause any problems...not a good idea for something like salt! My mom used to always say pour the salt over the sink NOT over the pot, because you might accidentally pour too much! If you spill in the sink, its not a lot of work to clean up (turn sink on...)
