My favourite organising tools #4 - masking tape

I saw this excellent tip from Deniece Schofield’s book, Confessions of an Organized Homemaker, when I read it 5 years ago. And I have used it since – in fact, I’m still using the same roll of masking tape!

If you haven’t read this book yet, do yourself a favour and read it.

Masking tape makes the easiest labelling tool ever. Why?

  1. your label can be as long or as short as you like

  2. tape is flexible

  3. it is easy to remove when you want to re-label a container

  4. it is easy to write on

Some of the ways I use masking tape for labelling:

  1. food in the freezer
  2. fridge shelves
  3. pantry shelves
  4. storage containers
  5. computer cords

labelling the shelves in my fridge

My tea & coffee shelf - soon I'll be clearing out all the hot chocolate. No!

flour containers - btw, I write the best before date on the label too

Do you use masking tape in your house? Can you think of other uses?

Button by Tina - isn't it gorgeous???

I don't use masking tape. I do agree with you on it's many uses and flexibility. I just don't use it. :) I only have a few things in canisters here, and since I'm the only one who uses them, I know what is where.
Can't wait to see your button!

I use masking tape to make labels for my shelves in the linen closet, but I never thought to use them as labels for my containers in the pantry. Good idea - thankyou!

Hey Marcia!
great tip. I did get the download, thanks so much!
I haven't used masking tape either for this, good idea.
The phone no. was home I believe. My cell is 405.740.7365.
It's terrible that emails don't make it through huh?

Being totally non-tech, once I get my equipment connected and plugged in, I wrap masking tape like a 'tag' around each cord labeled with it's identity as well as what it's connected to.

Eg: stereo/tv/dvd: where ea cord leads to ('rt speaker', 'to input tv', etc).

If I ever have to unplug it all (for repairs, rearranging, cleaning), I know how to put it all back together.

Same goes for my computer. Speakers, Monitor, Printer, Scanner...

Cords are all behind the furniture so it won't be seen anyway.

I just can't be the only one left on this planet who has to do this, am I? :)
