Do you keep your old diaries/ daily planners?

This is all part of Project Baby Organising.

I know this intellectually but every time I see it in practice in my own life I'm reminded anew of how easy it is to declutter once you get started.

What I'm doing is decluttering each of those shelves and clearing up space for some guest linen as this room will be doubling as a guest room on the one or two occasions we have people to stay every year.

Please notice I cropped out the right side of the wardrobe because my husband and I have that agreement.

Anyway, back to the topic.

I came across my old diaries/ daily planners from about 2002. I don't know why exactly I was hanging onto them...but I was.

Now they're all thrown out. Except for last year's one because I may want to access some information in there.

So, do you keep your old diaries/ daily planners? How long?

And by the way, what do you call them in your side of the world? In South Africa we call them diaries and we diarise our appointments :)

I have my planners going back to 1993 in my desk drawer. I look at them occasionally, if I want to remember when I did something or went somewhere (much easier now that I use Outlook). I'm not sure if older ones are in a box somewhere, or if I discarded them.

I keep my old planner for a year. There are always events and appointments I want to look at from the previous year.

Oh! I have all of mine back through 1985. I have used them repeatedly... for information on when and where during a divorce, for scrapbooking, and just to jog my memory since I seem to have blocked out about 5 years in the early 90s. I will not get rid of them, ever. They are all in specialized binders, labeled and on one shelf of my bookcase. I actually refer to them so often that they dont even have any dust!

I keep last year's planner. I write down appointments, jot notes, etc.. (I'm in the southeastern US.) Until I started reading your blog, I had never heard of diarising appointments, but I think it makes sense to say it that way, since you use a diary.

I also have a wall calendar. I transfer all notes, appointments, etc. from it into my planner each month, and discard the calendar at the end of the year. This makes it easier for me if someone has a child born that month, invitations to parties, etc. I can walk over to my calendar, make a note where it is visible each day to everyone in the family, and transfer it to my planner later.

I keep them forever! That being said, they are stored neatly in one place. I like the ability to go back and reference anything I might need. I can't tell you how many times I've gone back to check something so my planners are one of the few things I hang onto.

I keep them for as long as they are relevant. I have tossed various ones from the early nineties, but I have kept other ones with important dates...

Wouldnt be easier to keep them on the computer? saves space where ever you put them in the room, also you dont have to flick through pages, everything will be right in front of you.

Oh, i know what your thinking, what if the computer goes down - there will be a copy on CD.

Gosh the replies are not helping me. WhatnI really want is encouragement on getting rid of mine and how.
