12 days

Hi all

I don't think I've ever been away from the blog as long as this before but I have two very good reasons:

these two babies

Motherhood is the most rewarding, challenging, frustrating, crazy thing I've ever done and the twins thing? It's seriously kicking my butt! But I'm getting there and finally seeing some light. They'll be 10 weeks old tomorrow but as their paediatrician says, they're only actually two weeks old because they were 8 weeks prem!

We are settling into a bit of a routine. I almost hesitate to type that because it's a bit of a "two steps forward, one step back" business around here. Do you know what I mean?

I'm not sure what happened to the guest blogger I was meant to have for 6 weeks but now that I'm a mother, I understand that life just happens a lot of the time and sometimes survival is all you can hope for. Jenny, I hope you're okay.

However, I had a session with my accountability partner and friend, Beth Dargis, on Friday and I'm putting blogging back onto my to-do list :)

So check back later this week for some more posts.

  • How have you all been doing?
  • What have you been up to?
  • And if you care to, please share your best advice for getting through the first 6 weeks!

Your twins are beautiful!

My best advice for the 6 weeks is to enjoy it as much as you can. I know that's hard when you're exhausted and working so hard and probably still recovering from birth, but just enjoy it. You can never get the time back. Take lots of video and pictures. They change way too fast!

Congrats on the two cuties!

Hi Marcia I anxiously check my blog checker daily to see if you have posted . I can not believe the babies are 10 weeks old already. I have missed reading your posts though so I am happy to hear you will be doing a bit more blogging.
Best advice is to just relish it all if you can because it will go by so fast. My daughter is 11 now and I have no idea where 11 years went.
Love seeing pics of the babies!!!!!
Take care and remember you and the babies will survive even on those rough days.

Congratulations!

I have twins myself, and I promise you this:

It gets easier.

My twins are five now. I promise, you will sleep again. Eventually.

I've been checking in to make sure you all were okay!

First 6 weeks? Snuggle in, get someone to help you with the dishes, laundry and housecleaning. The first 6 weeks fly by, it does get easier and that chaotic way you're feeling slowly goes away as you figure things out.

Aww those little ones are so cute... Here is a secret that I keep in mind for the first twelve weeks - and I haven't even had twins! Don't intentionally do anything that isn't survival. And I mean simple meals, minimal cleaning and laundry and sleep whenever you can catch a wink. Then anything else you achieve is such a bonus because it was never even on the agenda! Aim low in the world and high in your babies eyes... they just need you more than someone else needs a thank-letter or any errand that "has" to be run. All the best - it looks like you are doing great...

Good to see the little ones. Time does fly. Se7en has is right. Just take care of those babies and the rest will just have to wait. This time is so precious and doesn't last very long - even though it can seem like it at the time. Take care of yourself and those precious babies!

Hey Marcia, Congratulations! How exciting for you and your family. The advice above is very good - focus on the immediate survival, especially you and the new babies, and the rest will take care of itself. Whenever someone offers to take care of another chore for you, say yes. Farm out everything but looking after the babies. One last little suggestion, don't be afraid to let a trusted friend/sister/neighbour take over for an hour or 2 while you grab a latte with your partner. And yes, it all shakes out in the wash. In a blink of an eye, they are all grown up and needing very little of your time and lots of your credit card. Enjoy! (And let me know if you need some more guest blogs).

Marcia, they are absolutely adorable! So very precious! My newest grandson was born on the 27th of August weighing in at 6 lbs 12 oz. Let's see, what have I been doing? Fighting off walking pneumonia.... and sewing! lol Expecting company in a few weeks so preparing each day a bit for that. And Christmas is around the corner!

Enjoy "Pete" and "Repeat"... you will understand that in a few months... that is what we affectionately called our twin granddaughters when they were little! lol

hugs,
Marcia
