Works for me Wednesday - Beth's declutter calendar

For more Works for me Wednesday tips, go visit Shannon.

This is a wall in my kitchen/ laundry room area. As you can see, I have a calendar with stickers and
Beth’s declutter calendar stapled to it. (You could use Beth’s calendar as your normal calendar but I have other stuff I need to write on and I didn’t want it to look too busy).

The stickers are differently coloured according to the activity – purple for church, green for ministry, yellow for socials, etc. Those smiley faces are business appointments.

You can go over to Beth’s website and get her free declutter calendar. She has a really small task for every day so you can easily tackle one task a day. For example, the chest of drawers in your bedroom is done over 4 days so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Each Sunday’s task is “plan for decluttering”.

If the particular task in my house is already sorted out (paper pile in entrance, for instance) then I just skip over it.

This works for me because it is a clear plan to declutter without being overwhelming.

Thanks for sharing! I've never seen the decluttering calendar before, but I love that idea. I'm going to post this link in my decluttering blog... with credit to you, of course... I know a few people who will appreciate it!

This is a great idea. I think I may give it a try. Another thing that has been helpful to me is a free resource made available by the company I work for. It's a helpful tip sheet on how to organize kids' rooms. It would be interesting to combine the ideas on that sheet with the calendar. Check out the tips at www.organizingmyhome.com.

Thanks!

What a fabulous idea! It's really difficult not to feel overwhelmed by everything, so I like the fact that big jobs are broken down into smaller, more manageable tasks. I'm still working on the girls' room, but I plan to have it done SOON. I got sidetracked with the basement (my most recent post today) because we are expecting Granny & Papa tomorrow and I feel guilty if they clean it up for me while I am out. Nice of them, yes, but it makes me feel like a slacker!

PS - I always feel a twinge of remorse when I tell people I absolutely don't want anymore kids, especially if they are having fertility issues. I wish it could be so simple for everyone (my own sister had problems, and it was never something I could fully understand - even though, as a mom, I could empathize). I just know, with three, I have reached my limit. I wish I had a bigger heart and more patience to allow for a lot more children.

I'm rambling now . . .

Cheers!
