How to declutter your feed reader

Found in the comments
I need to unsubscribe to blogs too. I have 230 feeds to go through someday! What was your criteria for unsubscribing?

I don't know about you, but for me, decluttering is not a four-letter word.

It's not a personal thing to declutter a blog because living our real lives are what it's all about, isn't it?

This is how I keep my blog reading under control. My 3rd point in that post has lots of suggestions.

But I'm interested in hearing from YOU!

What are your criteria?

I find if I'm flipping through my blogs and I pass over the same one several days in a row cause I can take it or leave it, I unsubscribe.
I try to stick to less than 100 - that way I'm not too overwhelmed :)

Excellent, Tanis. Because then you’re probably subscribed because it’s a habit and not because you REALLY get something out of it!

Well done on keeping the overwhelm away!

I unsubscribe from blogs when I have so many blogs I'm following that I can't actually keep up with them all. Usually, I'll pick the ones I find least interesting to remove...if I find myself skimming a particular blog or skipping it unread several times in a row, I unsubscribe. I also remove any ones when I find the author of the blog is promoting things I do not wish to be exposed to on the spot.

Every now and then I go through one (or all) of the folders and just do a checklist of clicking on each feed I'm subscribed to and asking myself "do I enjoy this blog" and removing any I don't enjoy all that much...anything that feels like more of a chore to read than exciting *delete*

At the top of your Bloglines feed, there are three links that say Add, Edit, Options. To delete a blog, click edit. Then highlight or click on the blog you wish to delete. You will receive a message asking if you want to delete the blog. Click okay. Then, at the top of the feed under Add, Edit, Options, it will have a new link that says Finished. Click that, and it takes you back to your feed.

I like the way you determine whether or not to continue to subscribe to a blog. So far this week, I have unsubbed from 7 blogs. I'm down to 93. I know that sounds like a lot, but not everyone posts every day, so it is not overwhelming. I need to categorize them like you suggested because there are definitely "can't miss" blogs and those that "can wait." Thanks!
