Getting out of your funk

Okay, I've figured it out!

Again I was doing some blog surfing (!) and I see lots of our declutter challengers (and others) are tackling offices this month. Or office spaces. Whatever the space is where you store your paper/ keep your piles of papers, etc.

So to get out of my funk, I'm going to post on paper/ email/ computer stuff for the whole of September, maybe even into October. Let's see how it goes.

But I need your help because I want this to be useful for you.

What is your biggest challenge with organising your office? Please be as specific as possible so I can give you some really good ideas :)

P.S. It may help to look around your space and see what your challenges are!

My biggest office issue is the filing. I have so many things to file, yet they just stack up with the lack of time to do it.

Well, Marcia, I am with Alexis. It is the paperwork and filing. I really struggle with that. And how LONG do I really need to keep statements and such? And receipts? I am loving my new decluttered space but this is the one area I worry about sneaking back up on me. How do we tame taht paper. I do try to throw the junk mail immediately so that doesn't cause much of the problem but that piles rise. And honestly, I suppose discipline is a lot of it too. The discipline and motivation (which having a decluttered, organized desk is motivation) is important, too!

Looking forward to your tips and help!!!!!

What a coincidence! I don't think I blogged about it, but I was sorting out my filing cabinet this last weekend myself...

I feel myself emerging from my funk!

I have to agree that keeping up with the filing is a challenge. The files get full, and there is only so much space, so finding the time to purge and knowing what to purge are an issue. Space is also an issue. If I had more money, I could buy some really cool space-saving storage devices, but right now, funds are limited. Too bad you can't really help me there! Maybe you know an inexpensive (which of course is a relative terms) storage solutions.

My biggest issue is that the office also doubles as our son's playroom. Papers are everywhere, drawings, stuff I've printed out for later, and bills to be filed.

My other problem is that I'm married to an IT guy. That means we have two monitors, 4 computers, and two printers. And they're staying, trust me I've tried to get the herd culled but it's a no go.

Obviously we share that space. And the desk is small and since we're both pilers, you can imagine what it's like.

Since I forgot to include my home office challenges...

1) My file cabinet is overflowing to the point I just stopped filing because nothing else fits...But in several months I haven't had any reason to even dig into the box of old mail and file later items...making me think...maybe all filing them is an unnecessary step? Maybe I don't need to hang onto paid credit card bills or old bank statements? What do I need to hang onto? For how long, for what purposes?

2) I moved last year, and a lot of papers got dumped into baskets and boxes and folders "to deal with later" because I was in a rush...needless to say, I have piles like this from the last two or three moves that tend to get forgotten. I think a lot of the stuff falls into the category of small paper-type memorabilia items that I'd like to scrapbook...if I could actually find the pieces that go together...at the same time...
